In eighth grade, a senior student gave me advice that has been living in my head rent-free ever since. I was standing next to the notice board, enviously staring at the names of students who had passed to go to tenth grade.
Their grades were so impressive they seemed unattainable. Anyway, this senior student noticed that I doubted my capacity to get such grades. He tapped me on the shoulder, allowed his hand to rest on it, and said:
If you want your dreams to come true, don’t sleep till noon.
He walked away without saying another word, leaving me confused. I didn’t know what to make of his words. Incomprehensible though they were, those words never left my mind.
It’s been years now and I understand what he meant. To accomplish a goal, you must spend a lot of time doing activities that move you closer to that goal. There’s no need to cut corners or run around in circles. After all:
The fastest way to get from point A to point B is through a straight line.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that spending a ridiculous amount of time in bed doesn’t help you accomplish anything. I know we live in a complicated world and people have different schedules. It doesn’t matter what time you go to bed or what time you wake up. What matters is that you don’t spend too much time in bed. Remember:
Dreams are made in bed, but they’re never achieved there.
